So, you’ve encountered a haunted doll, and now you’re ready to sell it. (You might even be desperate to sell it.) It’s time to create a haunted doll listing.
But wait! There are literally thousands of haunted doll listings online at any given time:
“2,800+ results for ‘haunted doll’”
How do you make your own little Annabelle stand out? With actionable tips from expert marketers — and you’ve come to the right place.
What is a haunted doll?
First, let’s make sure you actually have a haunted doll — it’s always best to be certain before making any claims. I mean, it isn’t as though “making a claim” is enough!
I spoke too soon. According to Wikipedia, “a haunted doll is a handmade or manufactured doll or stuffed toy … claimed to be cursed or possessed in some way.” So you’re probably fine.
If you’re still not quite sure, here’s a short checklist for verifying your haunted doll’s authenticity:
- Is your doll a doll or a stuffed toy?
- Was your doll or stuffed toy either made by hand or not made by hand?
- Are you claiming that your doll or stuffed toy is cursed or possessed in some way?
If you answered, congratulations! You have a haunted doll. Now it’s time to sell that wretched thing on the open market for as much cheddar as you can possibly get.
What platform should you use for selling your haunted doll?
You’re being actively terrorized by a malevolent spirit trapped in the carapace of a child’s toy. The first and most important question you probably have is, “How are haunted doll enthusiasts going to find my haunted doll listing?”
That’s when you start considering discoverability.
You could create a bespoke haunted doll e-commerce website using a builder like Shopify, Wix, or Squarespace. However, I’d recommend at least beginning your haunted doll journey on either eBay or Etsy.
“Search Engine Optimization” isn’t just a buzzword thrown around by LinkedIn thought leaders to boost engagement: It’s a real hurdle for small businesses and independent sellers like yourself. If you create your own haunted doll e-commerce website, it’s very unlikely that potential customers are going to be able to find you simply by typing “haunted dolls” into their search engine. Larger, older, more informational websites will almost always rank more highly, even if you put significant time and energy into bolstering your haunted website’s SEO. (Like and share if you want an article about SEO for your haunted website.)
This is part of the reason why sites like eBay and Etsy exist. Searching “haunted dolls” on either site will bring up thousands of relevant listings — in fact, searching “haunted dolls for sale” on Google will bring up Etsy and eBay listings. That’s why starting with one of those two platforms is a win-win for haunted doll sellers.

Now let’s get down to brass tacks.
Telling a story: How you bring your doll to life (figuratively)
The key to a successful haunted doll listing is to create a chilling sense of authenticity.
Of course, your haunted doll is the genuine article and not a once-beloved childhood toy you found at a yard sale and decided to make up a lot of lies about, but unfortunately, that’s not the case for every haunted doll listing.
I’m sorry to say that some sellers may be trying to maximize the profit on a perfectly ordinary doll by exploiting a vulnerable population desperate for a divine experience.
I know. It’s sickening.
But how can grifters possibly get away with selling normal dolls as haunted dolls? The same way that you make your legit haunted doll stand out: with great storytelling.
Storytelling helps immerse potential buyers in your haunted experience, so they can vividly imagine being tormented by your accursed wares.
Add. To. Cart.
So what are the elements of an outstanding haunted doll listing?
Showcasing your doll’s personality

Regardless of what you’re selling, most people want to know what to expect if they make a purchase. This is especially true when a purchase carries the risk of bringing vengeful spirits into the home. That’s why haunted doll listings include a description of the doll’s “personality” or “presence.”
Not every haunted doll is malevolent. On the contrary, many — perhaps even most — haunted doll listings claim to be possessed by positive presences or “give off good vibes.” Or, as in the case of “Marta: A Haunted Doll Possessed by Belial, Curse-Breaker and Protector of the Spirit”:
“Meet Marta, a haunted doll infused with the immense and commanding energy of Belial, an ancient spirit revered for his power to dismantle curses, banish malevolent forces, and restore sacred balance. Marta is far more than a protective artifact; she is a living vessel of liberation, designed to sever the spiritual chains that bind you and return you to wholeness.”
So any of those are options, I guess.
Your experience will help you intuit whether your haunted doll is possessed by a positive spirit, negative presence, or demonic entity, so you just have to relay that to your buyer. Think of your listing as a sort of haunted Tinder bio: Before you swipe right (?) you want to know what you’re getting into.
Detailing your doll’s history
Another potential inclusion is your haunted doll’s history. This can be either a) the history of the doll itself, or b) the history of the entity contained within.
Tangible doll history
For example, the description of “HAUNTED-Cursed or Coincidence?-Paranormal,” begins in the 1920s and continues for eight full paragraphs.
“HAUNTED—
Circa late 1920’s. This doll original belonged to Bessie Lou from Kentucky. Bessie was in her 40’s in 1938 when she all of a sudden dropped dead in her living room while her daughters were at school. Her daughters Dorothy and Mary continued to live in the home, with the doll. The doll was continuously mocked for being creepy, and the doll was also a joke as it was given to Bessie from a stalker she had when she was in her 30’s …”
Doll history as told by doll
Obviously, that seller was given a detailed history from the doll’s previous caretaker. However, you might need to rely on your paranormal intuition to get the deets, like the seller of “Haunted doll….Ginny”:
THIS DOLL IN SPECIFIC, WOULD LIKE TO STAY WITH SUSAN MARIE!! I would like to introduce you to Ginny, my spirit friend, a resilient woman born in the 1940s, who sadly died between the ages of 23 and 27. She offers guidance on future events through dreams and visions.
While a psychic connection is a great way to get historical information from your haunted doll, I don’t recommend beginning your listing with an all-caps statement specifying that your haunted doll “would like to stay with Susan Marie.” (Even if your doll insists on it.)
Paranormal observations
Potential buyers are also keen to get an idea of what to expect once they’ve taken possession (no pun intended). That’s why it’s key to include any “paranormal observations.”
What the doll does
If you have a boring haunted doll, like “Haunted Porcelain Doll – ‘Elowen’ – Victorian Spirit Vessel with Mysterious Energy,” your list might be run-of-the-mill, like this:
Paranormal Observations:
• Flickering lights in her presence
• Cold spots reported around her display
• Displaced small items and occasional soft tapping sounds at night
• Feelings of being watched (reported by sensitive individuals)
What the doll says

Others, like “Real haunted doll Dennis, needs a loving home, for experienced, may show distressing images in visions, protective spirit, positive spirit,” may engage you in conversation:
“He talks a little about his death, he died from a fall, he has said yes and no to it being an accident and has shown images of broken glass. I get the feeling there is something he doesn’t want to say and he will in his own time.”
What makes your doll unique
Or, you might have a more unusual haunted experience to share, like the seller of “Haunted doll Miguel. Actively haunted doll. Moves”:
“Often times this doll will be moved and you will hear whistles and Spanish speaking off in the distance, I can’t understand what he is saying when that happens.”
Unexpected observations
Of course, all your doll’s paranormal observations will be unique, because they will be true. However, if you can, include something unexpected to help make your listing stand out.

“Touching the doll with bare hands may cause nausea, dizziness, headache or flu-like symptoms. It is best to store behind glass or to have a circle of salt around the doll. Tonight, I am typing this with a terrible headache as I had removed the doll from a glass case in my pole barn to take some photos. The human hair belonged to Dorothy. The doll is extremely territorial with this hair. Proceed with caution.”
Observations that may or not be directly related to the doll
For fun, you could also include some occurrences that might happen to any given person on any given day:
“Strange occurrences such as seeing shadows, smoke alarms going off and hearing a woman voice, tapping, bizarre smells and doors opening, goosebumps, chills and the feeling of uncertainty or sadness have also been reported.”
Feelings of uncertainty or sadness? Who isn’t being haunted by this doll in 2025?
Your haunted doll’s name
If your doll doesn’t tell you its name (you know, psychically) then you don’t necessarily need to include one.
However, it’s pretty common to include a name on your haunted doll listing, and it can help potential buyers get a sense of your doll’s deal right away. Choose a name for your listing that seems appropriate: For example, if your doll is possessed by an ancient demonic entity, the name Roberta might be incongruous. On the other hand, if your doll is possessed by the spirit of a kindly old woman, “Abraxas” wouldn’t fit.
You could also just pick a name that was popular during a period in history when there were a lot of ghosts. In Western cultures, that means Victorian times. So you can’t go wrong with a name like Adelaide or Percival, or something like that.
If all else fails, choose a name that sounds old enough to have belonged to a dead person.
Taking photos of your haunted doll
Always include photos of your haunted doll: The key selling point of a haunted doll may be the haunt, but aesthetics play a part. Hopefully, your doll already looks as haunted on the outside as it does on the inside (I know I do). But feel free to play with your setting and props, lighting, and camera settings, to amplify the haunted look.
Setting and props
Consider the setting and surrounding items. You want your photo to feel uncanny, but also vaguely historical. The worst background for a photo of your haunted doll would probably be something like the RGB LED lighting setups that streamers use. The best background would probably be an outsized gravestone.

If you don’t have access to a cemetery, keep your background simple and go light on props to keep the focus on your doll.
Lighting
The best kind of lighting for your haunted doll’s photoshoot will be the worst kind of lighting for anything else you want to photograph.
Keep things dim — take your pictures late in the evening if you can. Ignore everything you’ve ever heard about 3-point lighting. If you need a light source, use a flashlight, candle, or high-intensity discharge headlights. Harsh shadows are good and you want them (in this instance).
Camera settings
Camera settings and photo editing can also increase the haunted ambiance of your photos.
A slow shutter speed can introduce motion blur — which is ideal if your doll moves, but you can also give your camera a little shake.
A wide aperture can make your doll seem surrounded by emptiness and filled with longing — which is ideal if touching your doll induces flu-like symptoms. Increasing the contrast amplifies the harsh shadows. Play with settings until you get the look you want.
How to set a price for your haunted doll
Finally, it’s time to decide on a price for your haunted doll. This is a tricky decision. You don’t want your price to be too high: In this economy, even the creepiest DINKs can’t afford 30 dolls. This might be one of just a handful of haunted doll purchases your potential customer makes this fiscal year, so you don’t want to price yourself out.

$12,000 is probably too high, unless your doll is VERY haunted.
At the same time, you don’t want to price your doll too low. Potential buyers might mistake your genuine article for one of those dime-a-dozen fake listings.
Look around at other listings with dolls (and spirits) similar to yours to get a sense of the going market rate. Remember that your buyers will take in the full landscape of the available haunted dolls — so it’s important to remain competitive.
Adding disclaimers
What happens if the Chucky who’s been chasing you with a chef’s knife is completely inanimate when it gets to its new home? Quelle horreur! Protect yourself by adding disclaimers to your listing, for example:
Absolve yourself
In the true spirit of haunted dolls (pun still not intended), make sure the buyer knows you’re not responsible for anything that happens or doesn’t happen. That should cover almost everything.
Per policy, I must state that I am not to be held responsible for any paranormal occurrences that may or may not happen.
You’re selling a physical doll that is supposed to be haunted, not a haunting. Your buyers should know that.
Shift responsibility
If you can, place the blame on the buyer for not having a paranormal experience, like this seller:
Not recommended for children or skeptics unwilling to welcome spiritual energy.
You didn’t have a paranormal experience, you say? That’s weird … have you considered the possibility that it’s your fault?
Mention that it was just a joke
Finally, you can always mention that the whole thing is purely entertainment, and that you can’t promise your buyer will be actively haunted.
I must say that the items are for entertainment purposes only & tangible with no metaphysical outcome.
A combination of these three disclaimers can almost guarantee a life free from buyer complaints, if nothing else.
Happy haunting
There you have it — a simple guide to creating your own haunted doll listing. I hope you’ve found it useful. Perhaps you’ve even found tips that can be applied to selling other, non-haunted items.
